Get To Know Mike And Why He Said Yes To Being A Model
How did you get roped into doing this, and what was your first thought when asked?
I was asked by Melissa Koke to participate in the event several months ago because our company, Summit Bank has been an active supporter of the event and now that they include guys, I was all in. I have known Melissa for many years and I could never tell her no....and besides, I will try anything twice (except for parasailing once was enough)!
Why did you say yes?
I love kids and have been involved in many non profit organizations that help kids for many years. Currently, I am the Immediate Past President of the Boys & Girls Club and know first hand what a wonderful job the this organization does to help kids reach their full potential. I love it and would do whatever I can to help further the mission!
What is your official job title?
Senior Vice President and Director of the Municipal Banking Group for Summit Bank
How would you describe your job to your mother?
I provide a full range of banking services to public entities, including Cities, Counties, School Districts, Fire Districts, Ports and many other Special Districts.
All families are unique, tell us about yours.
I have been married to my wife Tracy for 26 years and we have two daughters Hayley a senior at Sheldon High School and Sydney an 8th grader at Monroe Middle School. One thing unique about our family is that Hayley is adopted and Sydney is a miracle baby.
What is something that you swore you would never do as a parent before you had kids that you do now?
Say to my kids, "because I said so"! I think that the best parents are the ones that don't have kids! :-)
Tell us about your personal passions, talents, and/or hobbies.
I love people and believe that each one of us was born with special gifts and talents. If we can help each other discover and then engage these gifts there would be no limit to how fabulous our society could become. I believe this is especially true for kids, so one of my passions is to help kids discover their gifts and find ways for them to develop them to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
Who inspired you when you were growing up, and why?
My parents did for sure! They both grew up with very little coming out of the recession and through hard work, resourcefulness and a graceful attitude
were able to create a wonderful life for my brother and I. They instilled in us a belief that we could do anything we set our minds to as long as we took care of others. They were both in education, so that is where I developed my heart for teaching and helping others.
If you could go back and talk to your 12-year-old self, what would you say?
I would say to make sure you are open to new ideas and other perspectives....and sometimes it is better to be happy than to be right! :-)
