Get To Know Kristen And Why She Said Yes To Being A Model

How did you get roped into doing this, and what was your first thought when asked?

Amy Newport is very persistent. First though was...Crap! Wait... I have to strut my stuff in front of hundreds of people?

What made you say yes?

"You may find that making a difference for others makes the biggest difference in you." (One of my favorite quotes.) I decided sometimes we need to step out of our comfort zone to try something that might make a positive change in someone’s life!

What is your official job title?

Executive Assistant/Boss Lady. I do all the things the company president doesn’t have time to do (or doesn’t want to do? Lol)

How would you describe your job to your mother?

My job is different every day. It comes with new challenges daily, but I get to be creative, problem solve, be a leader and a decision maker. It’s never a dull moment!

All families are unique, tell us about yours...

I have 3 kids, and two dogs, and we are all very stubborn. We have dance parties when life gets too crazy, and we try not to take life too seriously. We are a hot mess most of the time, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Tell us about your personal passions, talents, and/or hobbies.

I am the party-planner extraordinaire! I love planning parties for work, birthday parties, all of it! I also love crafting and refinishing furniture, to name just a few things I like to do in my spare time.

What is something that you swore you would never do as a parent before you had kids that you do now?

Where do I start? Drive a minivan! (Been there done that.) Give into kid tantrums in public. Let my kids eat dinner on the couch. Use electronics when we go out to dinner. Make separate meals--my kids will eat what I make! Never use the TV (or iPhone) as a babysitter. Oops!

What is something that people might be surprised to know about you?

I love power tools! Whether it's power-washing the driveway, using a chop saw to cut wood, trimming brushes in the yard or simply using an electric drill.

Who inspired you when you were growing up?

I used to say when I grow up I hope to be half the mother my mom was to me and my sisters. She has taught me how to be selfless, supportive, non-judgmental, kind, loving, giving and patient (although I'm still working on this). She really lives the saying, “When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.” You just keep moving forward.

If you could go back and talk to your 12-year-old self, what would you say?

Don’t give your parents a reason to cringe when they look back on your teenage years!
