Get To Know Cassie And Why She Said Yes To Being A Model
How did you get roped into doing this, and what was your first thought when asked?
A friend of mine is a member of the Board for the Boys & Girls Club and asked me to be a model. My first thought was that there was no way I was going to be comfortable walking a catwalk!
Why did you say yes?
I thought about what the Boys & Girls Club means to this community and all of the kids who will benefit from the funds we raise, I realized I could suffer a little humiliation to help such a worthy cause.
What is your official job title?
Gleaves Swearingen, LLP Partner
How would you describe your job to your mother?
I'm like Matlock, but if he was a business attorney and sat a desk researching, writing, and working on files all day and was rarely actually in Court. So, I guess not at all like Matlock
What is your favorite part of your occupation?
I'm a business lawyer and I get the privilege of advising and assisting local business owners during some of the most difficult times their business may face. I am so honored to be a part of my clients' advisory teams and to have the chance to problem solve with them to find practical solutions to their disputes.
All families are unique, tell us about yours:
I grew up just 40 miles north of Eugene in the town of Lebanon. I was lucky to grow up with a brother just two years younger than I am and with my Grandparents, Aunt, Uncle, and cousins all living just 5 minutes away. We had a big, loud, wonderful extended family and I continue to be lucky to live close by.
Tell us about your personal passions, talents, and/or hobbies.
I went to Oregon State for my undergraduate work and am a huge supporter of Beaver athletics. My passion is traveling and I do so whenever I can. I've made it to Italy, Peru, India, the Netherlands and Belgium in just the last couple of years and I explore new cities near and far as much as possible. I also love watching movies, reading, hiking, and spending time with my family and friends.
What is something that you swore you would never do as a parent before you had kids that you do now?
I am not yet a parent but I am a fun "auntie" to a lot of little ones. Because I get to be the fun one, there isn't anything that I swore I'd never do.
Who inspired you when you were growing up, and why?
My parents inspired me when I was growing up. They both worked so hard for our family and to make my childhood perfect. They were quick with words of encouragement and praise for my accomplishments. They picked me up when I was down and no matter how busy or stressed they were they always had time to have fun with their kids. They instilled in me a sense of community and a need to give back. They made me believe I could do anything. And I'm so grateful for that.
If you could go back and talk to your 12-year-old self, what would you say?
I would tell her that she is strong and smart and that she has a great life ahead of her. I would tell her to appreciate being a kid more, that she'll be an adult soon enough.
